Door Styles We Install

Most homes in Middle Tennessee suit one of a few families of door. Each comes in a range of colors, window layouts and insulation levels.

Materials & insulation

Materials and Insulation

Tennessee summers are hot and humid and winters can be sharp. If your garage is attached, the door’s construction affects the rooms next to it.

R-values vary by manufacturer and model. We’ll show you the published figures for the doors you’re comparing.
ConstructionWhat it isGood for
Non-insulated steelA single steel skin over a frame.Detached garages and storage, where budget matters most.
Polystyrene-insulated steelRigid foam panels fitted into a steel door, often with a backer.Attached garages that need a step up in comfort and quiet.
Polyurethane-insulated steelFoam injected between two steel skins and bonded to both.Garages next to living space, rooms above, workshops and gyms. Stiffer and more dent-resistant.
Wood-look composite or steelSteel or composite with a realistic wood-grain finish. The look of carriage-house wood without the refinishing.
Aluminum and glassAluminum frame with glass or polycarbonate panels.Modern homes, lots of natural light, indoor-outdoor spaces.

Design choices

Design Choices That Make the Difference

Small decisions change how a door reads from the street. We bring samples and help you weigh them against the house.

  • Panel Design

Raised, recessed, flush, carriage-house or full-view.

  • Color and Finish

Match the trim, contrast with brick, or go wood-tone.

  • Windows

Top-row windows, clear or obscure glass, and grille patterns.

  • Decorative Hardware

Handles and hinge straps for a carriage-house look.

  • Size and Headroom

Width, height and the space above the opening.

  • Insulation Level

Matched to how you use the garage.

High-lift conversions

High-Lift Garage Door Conversions

Standard track turns the door back along the ceiling just above the opening. High-lift track carries the door further up the wall before it turns, freeing space for a car lift, tall storage or simply a cleaner ceiling.

  • Needs enough ceiling height, which we measure first
  • Different track and springs sized for the new travel
  • Usually paired with a wall-mount opener

Planning

Questions to Answer Before You Choose

We’ll walk through these with you during the estimate.

  • How do you use the garage?Parking only, or a gym, shop or playroom? That decides insulation.
  • What’s above or beside it?Bedrooms and living space call for insulation and a quiet opener.
  • Which way does it face?West-facing doors take afternoon sun; color and insulation matter more.
  • What does the house want?Brick, farmhouse, craftsman and modern homes suit different doors.

New Garage Door Questions

Quick answers to common questions. Don’t see yours? Call (615) 500-0326.

How long does a new garage door installation take?

Most single residential door installations are completed in a day, including removing the old door. Custom or special-order doors take time to arrive from the manufacturer, so we’ll give you an expected timeline when you order.

Is an insulated garage door worth it?

If the garage is attached, has a room above it, or you use it as a workshop or gym, insulation makes a noticeable difference in comfort and noise. Insulated doors are also more rigid and tend to dent less. For a detached storage garage, a non-insulated door can be perfectly fine.

What does R-value mean for a garage door?

R-value measures resistance to heat flow. Higher numbers insulate better. Polyurethane-insulated doors generally reach higher R-values than polystyrene doors of the same thickness. Manufacturers measure R-value differently, so compare doors carefully.

Will you haul away my old door?

Yes. Removal and haul-away of the old door, springs and hardware is part of a replacement installation.

Do I need a new opener with a new door?

Not always. If your opener is in good shape and suited to the new door’s weight, we can reconnect and adjust it. Heavier insulated or wood-look doors sometimes call for a stronger opener; we’ll tell you if yours is undersized.
